Slow Detox

The switch over to raw has been great. Most of the time. The detoxing isn't very exciting. When you read about the raw diet online not everyone is quick to mention the fact that detoxing happens. Maybe they've just been on the raw food program for so long they've forgotten. If you go to a Raw diet treatment center you can get a colon cleanse. (We watched Jenna Norwood's movie "Supercharge Me"). Of course there are lots of ways to get a colon cleanse. So when we started the diet I asked my friend (who did raw for 2 years and just stopped last winter) if I need to do a colon cleanse. No, she said, the diet will do it, it will just take longer. So what's detoxing on a diet like? It's not constantly feeling bad, or I couldn't continue, I don't like feeling awful. It's not even really feeling awful. For Damon he hasn't noticed anything. For me, it's periodically feeling drained, diarrhea maybe once a week, and headaches maybe once a week. It's not bad, I was having worse headaches, diarrhea and feeling lethargic before the switch to raw! I just wanted to mention it to anyone making the change. It may take up to 3 months for these symptoms to stop. I wonder if I could have avoided this by just doing the cleanse? When I feel drained I drink some coconut milk or eat some fruit. It usually works. Naps would probably work too, but I don't think my boss would agree to those .
