Kale chips recipe revised, Secret revealed.
Raw Kale chips revised! These were better than the last recipe. We came up with some tips to make them easier and they worked.
Pick your kale, or purchase a bunch. We had 2 pounds from the garden.
Here's our secret.
Rinse kale and remove the largest stems.
For 2 lbs of Kale:
Melt approx 1/4 cup Coconut Oil (virgin organic)
Press approx. 4 to 6 cloves Garlic (we like lots)
Massage Kale well with Coconut Oil and Garlic until moist.
Sprinkle on 1/4 cup Nutritional yeast until well coated.
Dehydrate approx. 4 hours. We left ours in the dehydrator overnight.

I wish we had a larger bowl, we had to split it up between two.

Damon poured the coconut oil and garlic on while I massaged the kale.

Massage until all leaves are moist.

Sprinkle the Kale with the Nutritional yeast and toss.

Spread on dehydrator sheets, as flat as possible.
We like it spicy. We added some of our favorite spice to several of the trays. Golden Cayenne made by The Pepper Forest Spice Company. We found them at our local Summer arts fair. You can find them here: Pepper Forest Spice Co. Most of their spices are raw!

We sprinkled the spice on after it was on the sheet, and marked the spicy sheets with a popscicle stick. (We keep a large box in the kitchen and use them all the time. Instead of dirtying a knife or spoon to serve or stir various things in the kitchen. They are inexpensive and you don't have to waste water cleaning them, throwing them away is only adding wood to the garbage, how bad can that be to the environment?)

The finished product. They were thin and crispy, and yummy! A future article will investigate the many faces of Kale. Enjoy!

DELICIOUS, but mucho prep work. i just trim the kale and spread the leaves on a cookie sheet with parchment paper and bake at 350f for about 10 minutes.

Yes, baking them is easier. This method keeps the nutrients alive. I will try to trim instead of keeping the leaves whole next time, good suggestion.
