What would you change for better health?

If the doctor told you that you could change your diet to better your health instead of taking a pill to "control" your condition what would you do? We are so anxious to find a cure to our health issues that we are more than willing to take a prescription, but what if the doctor
told you to eat radically different and you won't need to take a pill? How hard would you try?

“Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.”--Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.)

Notice how long ago Hippocrates knew that food was a key to our health. What are you making your medicine? Is it your food? Or is it the little pills that the doctor gave you to "control" your condition. The food we are eating controls our health. What a concept!!!! America is flooded with processed food that the food industry tells us is natural and healthful (they base this on a whole 8 nutrients!). If that's true, why are we so unhealthy?

I know that many of us have no clue as to how to cut the "bad stuff" out of our diet. I am here to tell you it's not as hard as you think. Although Damon and I have gone 90% raw, I would never expect any of you to. What I want to challenge you to is to try one or two meals a week that you eat 'mostly' raw....and, that you feed your kids fresh fruits and veggies instead of processed food as much as possible. We still cook for Ali and Nathan. They do like hamburgers and chicken and spaghetti. We do make those meals for them, but we use only 100% organic ingredients and include as many fresh fruits and veggies as possible. Snacks and desserts are different but similar. Fresh fruit sorbet, or a nectarine with cacao caramel instead of ice cream and chocolate topping. Once you switch your household over, there is no going back. The kids learn that "It's what we have, or nothing at all", they learn and start to crave the "good stuff". You will see that you too will crave the fresh fruits and veggies because they taste better than anything processed or frozen.

It seems like I'm always in the kitchen. But, to tell you the truth, when I was shopping for and cooking  meals, I was always in the kitchen too. Either chopping, slicing, shredding, dicing, marinating, Let alone, doing dishes before and pots and pans after the meal, and making sure it was served hot and fresh. The only thing that has changed is the doing pots and pans after the meal and worrying that it's still hot when it's served (it's always served when it's done, not hot ).

Raw food is not a fad diet. In fact, it's not a diet at all. It is a lifestyle. We need to accept the fact that we were not taught to eat correctly. Did you know we are the only species out of 700,000,000 that cooks our food? You think it's just because we walk on our hind legs or we are smarter? How many animal species die of obesity or diabetes without processed foods? How many species need an Rx to control their blood pressure or cholesterol? Only humans.

Do the research (you can start here www.living-foods.com), this is not a fad diet. This is not a "new" diet plan. Again, it's a lifestyle, it's a realization that we are what we eat.

One thing I will point out: After having the kids for the last 7 days, their friends at school were very impressed with their school lunches. They were full of fresh fruit roll ups, carrots, dried figs, organic turkey sandwiches on organic wheat bread (no HFC or other nasty stuff, thanks to a Costco/Kirkland brand), Odwalla mini drinks (again thanks to Costco) and honey sticks. We purchase our honey sticks from  Glory Bee Foods. I won't go into how good honey is for everyone and children. That's a whole post in itself. Note: some raw foodists (vegan) avoid honey because it's an animal product, but we do not.

I want each and every person reading this to know how important what we eat is to our health and how you can change the way you feel daily by simple steps. The recipes I post are for all of us. Yes, we have a dehydrator, but that was not added until we were raw for approx 5 months. You can take steps immediately to improve your health.

What are you willing to do to improve your health without visiting the doctor or hospital?

I'd just like to say it's not easy by any means, yet it's so worth it! Think of all the things you had to go through when you set up your new kitchen to cook. all the cookbooks you had beg for and buy and borrow in order to decide what to make.... same thing. we still have to decide what to make. it is only about now we have simplified shopping to a few basic ingredients since we have nice stocks of superfoods, nuts and seeds for soaking and sprouting. Instead of worrying about taking something out of the freezer to cook later, i worry about seeds and sprouts for dressings and greens with dinner and lunch. It's really just reallocating space and time in order to accommodate your new "awareness" about the foods you are using to keep you and your family healthy, happy and aware! WE CAN DO IT! WE WILL DO IT!
