Raw Hummus Recipe
Our favorite spread for wraps, sandwiches and for dips is Hummus. If you've never had it before, it's a little bit like unflavored chicken in a spread. Hummus is made with Chick Peas (Garbanzo Beans). You can purchase pre-made Hummus spread at almost any market, most of them are flavored with garlic, smoked pepper, olives, etc. It's very easy to make your own as well. You can purchase cans of chick peas (of course try to buy organic) or you can purchase dried raw organic chick peas and sprout them yourself. We previously used chick peas in our Indian recipes. We would purchase 6 cans at a time from our local big box store and cook them with lots of sauce and spices. Now we buy them in bulk at the local organic market and sprout them ourselves. It's amazing how much money we are saving now that we are making so much of our own food! Try sprouting some chick peas yourself to put on salads alone or to make some hummus:
Raw sprouted chick peas:
Place 1 cup raw organic chick peas in quart jar and fill jar with filtered water...let sit overnight on counter.
Starting the next day rinse with filtered water twice daily removing water each time. Let jar lay on side to let water drain in a spot where no direct sun will hit it.
When tails show on beans in about 4-7 days rinse, leave water in jar and place in refrigerator. The beans are now ready for use.
These chick peas are not quite ready, they are only about 3 days old.
These chick peas are ready to use at 6 days.

Our new favorite Hummus recipe by Gina from The Raw Greek
1 Cup sprouted Chick Peas
1 - 2 Lemons juiced (depends on how juicy they are and your personal taste)
2 Tbsp raw Tahini or Almond Butter
3 Tbsp Olive Oil
1 clove Garlic (crushed)
Celtic Sea Salt to taste
Place all ingredients in blender and blend until creamy and smooth. We like to use low speed for a while until the peas are all chopped, then switch to high speed to finish. Add whatever you want for flavor. We split the recipe up and make several different flavors for whatever it is we are craving.
Add liquid smoke, red pepper and paprika for Bologna flavor. (our No Bologna Sandwich recipe)
Add green peppers and jalapenos for something spicy.
Add Kalamata olives for Mediterranean.
Add extra Garlic... just because you love Garlic!
Experiment with lots of different things to find your favorite spread.
What's your favorite Hummus recipe? What's your favorite way to eat it? and..... are they beans or peas?
