Our favorite raw recipe book
I'm always talking about recipe books because I want to make sure I give credit where credit is due. And, I'm not a chef. Damon is much more creative in the kitchen, I just want to make good food and EAT IT!
We have purchased approximately 10 raw recipe books. Note: It's hard to call them "cookbooks" when you actually don't cook anything. That's not including the ebooks that we have downloaded for free or paid for over the web.
We have tried several recipes from each and some that we found online. I think out of all the recipe books we have, Cherie Soria's The Raw Food Diet Revolution is probably my favorite. After making recipes from other raw chefs I have come to appreciate the experience that resonates from Cherie's recipes.
She is an amazing woman that has given a creditable name to the raw food world. Check out her website slonh with the raw chef culinary classes she offers, she also offers retreats, an eco friendly Inn, a store and a raw cafe! She makes coming to the north coast of California and visiting the little town of Fort Bragg worth the curvy windy road and many hours of travel to get there. We are very fortunate to live only 1 1/2 hours away!!
I still tend to pick easy recipes with few ingredients. (Not all of the recipes in Cherie's book are). It's part of how I grew up cooking, and have had to continue because I work a 9 - 5 Monday through Friday job. Being on a high raw diet (that's what they call it when you do "mostly" raw or 85 - 95% raw) does take planning, but so do meals that you cook! Unless you go to the market every day you are always thinking ahead to what you will need for the next several days. It's no different being raw. You just purchase all fresh ingredients and put something in the dehydrator a couple days in advance of needing it, or make sure you have enough almond milk made for cereal in the morning before you go to bed. It's getting easier as the months go along. I am so lucky to have a boyfriend that supports our new lifestyle. I know without him it would be tough to do, but not impossible.
Continue your research on the benefits of going raw. Remember, even if you don't go high raw like us, if you changed your diet to at least 51% of every meal to include fresh, unprocessed foods and uncooked fruits and vegetables you would be doing better than you are now. Right?
